This past week the group took to the road and saw more of the South Island while continuing their training in new locales. The first stopover was in Invercargill where we rowed out of the Waihopai Rowing Club and even rowed in mixed lineups with some local rowers. A trip to the Bluff was also in order so that we could sample some of the world famous Bluff Oysters. After two days in Invercargill we were back on the road for a day trip to Milford Sound, which claims to be the eighth natural wonder of the world. After a cruise through the fjord the Sparks rowers agreed that the beauty of the place was unmatched. After Milford Sound we stopped in Queenstown for a few days of rowing on Lake Hayes and experiencing all the adventure capital of New Zealand had to offer. Different group members tried skydiving, bungy jumping, a type of louge, skiing, and even took a ride in a submersible boat shaped like a shark! After six days of travel, the group happily returned to Dunedin for the final week of training before the final 2km erg test.
