Now that we have our full group here, we decided to take a trip out to Sandfly Bay on Otago Peninsula. Sandfly Bay is the home of yellow-eyed penguins, sea lions, and, you guessed it, flying sand. The beach gets its name from the high winds that cause the sand to fly around the beach. Here are a few of the guys getting (not too) up close and personal with one of the massive sea lions on the beach.
After our wildlife encounter, we gathered around in the wind and rain for a nice group photo. This was the last moment the guys were all fully dressed and mostly dry; after the picture a few boldly turned around and braved the waters for a very quick dip. Never fear, they all made it back out alive and with all their appendages in tact.
