The week is flying by. Athletes settled into the rhythm of camp right away, and have been getting good water time. The heat held up for us, and athletes are doing a great job keeping cool because of the suggestions and guidance of Coach Anderson Bourell. It has allowed our coaches to get some good miles on the water, and the athletes and coxswains are really working well together.
Athletes have been able to meet with our coaching staff each afternoon to discuss a variety of topics – training, rowing technique, and recruiting. This one-on-one time is valuable as each athlete is able to ask questions and refine the goals that they submitted before camp. Coxswains have their own separate meetings where they will review and discuss the training sessions.
Camp has has plenty of fun moments as well!
We continued lectures this week. On Wednesday night, athletes broke up in to upperclassmen and underclassmen. Upperclassmen had a lively discussion about “What do I want?”, when choosing a college or university. This discussion helped prepare them for the Coaches’ Panel we had on Thursday night. Thursday night went really well, and athletes had great questions that were not asked in Week 1.
It has been a great week, and we are looking forward to RACE DAY tomorrow. This morning it is raining, so we’ll see how the day goes, and keep you updated!
