Sparks is back to Wesleyan University for 2014! Camp kicked off this afternoon, as campers arrived from all over the country. Coaches and athletes met at the Freeman Athletic Center where they were introduced to the coaching staff and camp counselors. Athletes were broken into groups (boys and girls, rowers and coxswains) to go through initial assessments.
While the girls did their assessments at the Freeman Athletic Center, the boys walked down to the Macomber Boathouse located right on the Connecticut River only a few blocks from campus. Coaches put the boys through their assessments. Coxswains were split up between both the boys and girls and helped coaches record scores on the ergometers.
Following assessments, our hungry athletes walked to the Usdan Campus Center where they had dinner. Wesleyan is home to our Middletown, Connecticut camp as well as other non-rowing camps during the summer, so our athletes have an opportunity to see what a busy college campus is like.
After dinner, athletes met outside Clark Hall (the dormitory) for an Ice Cream Social and free time. Practice is 7:15 am tomorrow morning, so everyone was ready to get to bed for two-a-days starting tomorrow.
