bg-3 Tour de Catlins

Tour de Catlins

After a gruelling workout Saturday, on Sunday the group had the day off and took a day trip to the Catlins, a rural area of tremendous sights and natural beauty.  A part of New Zealand’s Southern Scenic Route, the Catlins possess numerous mountains, waterfalls, and ocean vistas.  Some highlights of the trip included Maclean Falls, Tunnel Hill, Slope Point (the southernmost point of South Island) and a stop at Nugget Point, an ocean side location named for the rock bulges just off shore.  At Nugget Point the rowers received their Sparks shirts for the trip which are emblazoned with the word “Realize”–a reminder of the overarching goal of the program.
