bg-3 Winter on the Water

Winter on the Water

A day after arriving in Dunedin safely and pulling their first erg test of the program, the rowers got on the water in singles and doubles Wednesday.  The winter winds, which can present enough of a problem to keep the rowers on the ergs, have cooperated so far and allowed the group to start developing their small boat skills with Coach Malcolm.  This morning’s  row saw the air temperature warm up to a seasonably warm 9 degrees Celsius (48 degrees Fahrenheit) by the end of the session, but the rowers claimed the water felt much colder when they waded in to launch their boats.  Cold weather, biting wind and beautiful landscapes: all part of rowing in New Zealand’s winter.IMG_0344.
