East Bay Rowing offers learn to row singles, learn to row team boats, and advanced team training. Our summer camps are each one week and your rower can progress from singles to team rowing if they sign up for multiple weeks. Rowers must be 13 years of age and pass a swim test to join the fun!
- Zephyrs Camp: Learn to row in a zephyr rowing shell! Zephyr’s are very stable singles, you will row on your own. This class will teach you the basics of the rowing stroke. The language and mechanics of rowing will be taught. YOU MUST BE 13 YEARS OLD! Class size limited to 5 rowers
- Beginner Sweeps Camp (*must have completed zephyr learn to row first):
Learn how to row in a team sweeps boat. Camp will run with a minimum of 5-signed up- maximum 12. Get a jump-start on the competitive season by doing this camp! This is a great opportunity to do team rowing!
- Advanced Ramp Up Camp: For previous competitive team rowers ONLY. Get on the water this summer and perfect your technique. Up to 20 rowers per camp week only!

Director of Experiential Education
Dave Payne heads Sparks' experiential education division - namely, rowing camps across the US and in Europe and New Zealand. He holds a B.S. in Chemical Education and a M.S. in Chemistry from the University of California at San Diego and is a former collegiate athlete and high school rowing head coach. He has worked at Sparks since 2011; Dave's passion is synthesizing athletic environments that encourage holistic growth.
